Working with young people

As a team captain in a position of authority and trust, there are a number of things that you need to do to ensure that young people under the age of 18 are safeguarded and protected.

You will need to:

Complete the short on-line England Hockey safeguarding training course. The £10 course fee can be reclaimed from either your team’s match fees (with a receipt) or the Club Treasurer on production of the course receipt.

Read and apply the guidance in the England Hockey Good Practice Guide. It covers the following key areas:

• General do’s and don’ts
• Additional vulnerability
• Position of trust
• Supervision and communication, including social media
• Changing rooms
• Transport
• Sources of other best practice guidance
